Solid Season Start For O'Connor

Feb 10, 2013

Siobhan-Marie O'Connor, of Bath, clocked 2:11.27 to win the 200m medley at the Derventio eXcel February Festival at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

O'Connor gained an 11th-hour place on Britain's Olympic squad over 100m breaststroke last year but did not get a place on medley, in which she exclelled throughout her junior years. In Sheffield, she went through in 28.04, 1:01.82 and 1:39.50 on her way to a dominant victory over fellow London 2012 teammate Aimee Wilmott, on 2:14.09.

In other action, GB Olympic teamster Craig Benson, of Warrender in Edinburgh, won the 100m breaststroke in a solid 1:00.98, while London 2012 teammate Roberto Pavoni, of Loughborough and one of the busiest racers at the meet, took the 200m free in 1:52.66.

Meanwhile, meet hosts Derventio boasts 13-year-old Abbie Wood, winner of her age 200m breaststroke by 10sec in 2:31.99. One to watch for.
