Wildcats Participate in SEC East Competition

Oct 28, 2000

The University of Kentucky men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division competition on Friday, Oct. 27 in Knoxville, Tenn. The meet was scored as five dual meets, pitting the Cats against four other SEC East schools--Florida, Tennessee, Georgia and South Carolina. Both the men's and women's team defeated South Carolina, but fell to the other schools.

The women fared well, however, placing in the top five in numerous events. Freshman Kelli Stein finished fifth in the 100 backstroke and fifth in the 200 breaststroke. Senior co-captain Jaime Siegele swam to a third place finish in the 50 freestyle and to fourth in the 100 freestyle, while fellow senior and co-captain Melissa Olson was third in the 200 Individual Medley and fourth in the 200 backstroke.

The men swam strong, with senior co-captain Macon White winning the 200 freestyle, narrowly missing the NCAA "B" cut and finishing second in the 500 freestyle. Senior co-captain Aaron Workman placed second in the 100 freestyle and fourth in the 50 freestyle. Senior co-captain Shaun Zitani swam to second in the 50 freestyle. Sophomore Eddie Clement finished fifth in the 200 butterfly. Sophomore diver Clayton Moss took first in the three-meter while junior Aaron Kirkpatrick took fourth in the one-meter.

The Wildcats will dive back into action against Indiana on Friday, Nov. 3, at 6 p.m. ET at the Counsilman and Billingsley Center in Bloomington, Ind.
