Oct 27, 2000

Reports from the Japanese Swimming Federation say that Suzu Chiba is retiring.

This will be the second retirement for Chiba. She retired after the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta but decided to comeback in 1998.

According to her coached Bud McAllister, Chiba was sick and recovering from the flu during this years Olympic Trials although her best time last year of 1:58.78 in the 200m freestyle would have been good enough to earn a bronze at this year's Sydney Olympic Games.
