Wouda Will Not Swim 400 IM In Sydney

Jul 13, 2000  - Martin de Wildt

After missing the final on the 400IM at the European Championships, Marcel Wouda has announced that he will not be swimming the 400IM at the Sydney Olympics.

He stated that he feels he will not have the power to be a contender in Australia for a medal, let alone the gold one, so he is concentrating on the 200IM.

He will probably add the 100 breast to his program, as he sees it as a good warm-up for the 200IM. Marcel holds the Dutch National Record in the 100m breast in 1.02.45, which he swam in December 1999.

He will also be a part of the 4x200m free relay and will swim the breaststroke leg in the 4x100m medley relay in Sydney.
