We just received word that Alexander Popov broke the World Record in the 50m freestyle in a time trial at the Russian Swimming Championships. Popov had the special heat just prior to the beginning of the evening session at the Moscow Olympic pool. His time of 21.64 betters the world record time of 21.81 set by Tom Jager USA, in 1990.
