British Olympic Association Rules Bodysuits Are "Specialized Equipment"

Jun 14, 2000

The British Olympic Association followed the lead of the Australian Olympic Association and ruled that the bodysuits are "specialized equipment".

This means that swimmers will now be able to decide for themselves which manufacturers suits they want to where.

The British Olympic Association has a contract for the British Team with Adidas. This ruling will allow swimmers to wear unbranded suits from other manufacturers in competition if they wish. However the decision did not make clear what this would mean for swimmers wearing more traditional suits.

The British swimming federation is now trying to get clarification from the British Olympic Association on "what constitutes a bodysuit".
