Sloan Family Says Thanks

Mar 15, 2000

From Fred Sloan - Tara's Dad
As you have undoubtedly heard, Tara passed away quietly, surrounded by gayle and myself and many friends and relatives at 10:30 a.m saturday morning. As her brain swelling continued there was very minute brain activity. We knew that if a miracle was to happen it would have to be between tara and god. She was very peaceful - the most difficult part was watching her lie there on life support - not the way she lived life. She had such a passion for life and this was just not her.

We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support - it has been most overwhelming.

We have established a "Tara Sloan Fund" which will be used to recognize and support, through scholarships, up and coming "Potential Olympians" who have demonstrated the "True Grit" that Tara has displayed over her lifetime. It will also go to supporting local charities such as stars and the I.C.U at Foothills. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at any royal bank or royal trust in calgary.

We have spent the last couple of days surrounded by family and friends - watching videos of tara at 1, 2 3 etc. And telling stories- and laughing -and crying - and counting the blessings that we were able to have 20 wonderful years with such a unique person.

Tara touched the lives of people all over the world as we have had phone calls, and emails and cards from people in every corner of the world.

Since tara didn't really like "funerals" we are choosing to call her memorial a "celebration of her life". It will happen next saturday - march 18th. - And at this point we are not sure exactly where. I will communicate that when we know.

Feel free to pass this message on, as many of you have been a great help in communicating to other people and we have appreciated that as well.

She has left a void in our heart, but we will be forever grateful for the joy and fulfillment and love that she has brought into our lives over the last 20 years.

Again, Thank you for your support.

With Love and Heartfelt Appreciation,

Fred, Gayle, Trevor, Camille and Tyler.
