Buckeyes Top Northwestern, Kenyon In Last Home Meet

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State men's swimming and diving team (7-1, 1-1 Big Ten) finished its last home meet of the season with a double win over Big Ten rival Northwestern, 245-96, and intrastate rival Kenyon, 242-96. The Buckeyes established a strong lead Friday night by winning six of nine events. The Wildcats edged out the Lords, 181-139.

Senior captain Jason Fox (Goshen, Ind.) captured three first-place finishes. Fox won the 200 IM (1:50.25), the 200 butterfly (1:49.90) and the 200 breaststroke (2:06.20). The 200 IM and 200 butterfly set season records for the team. Senior Mike Reilly (Virginia Beach, Va.) beat his best time in the 1,650 freestyle event by 32 seconds, with a time of 15:29.97. Reilly's time of 4:33.17 in the 500 freestyle earned honors of an OSU season best. Sophomore Travis Carver (Overland Park, Kan.) was a double winner for OSU in the 100 freestyle event (45.28) and the 400 IM (3:58.72). Nick Rees (Fr., Nassau, Bahamas) posted an OSU season best in the 100 butterfly with a time of 49.88. Junior Brian Malich (Mason, Ohio) earned a season and individual best in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.54.

OSU divers swept the one-meter and three-meter events. Freshman Heath Knowling (Alexandria, Ind.) scored 317.075 points for a season and individual best in the one-meter dive. Freshman Chris Monson (Edmonton, Canada) scored 321.825 points in the three-meter dive for the win. adding a season best.

The Buckeyes' 800 free relay team of Carver, Vladi Dusil (Fr., Griesheim, Germany), Reilly and Malich broke the Mike Peppe Aquatic Center pool record for the second time this season with a time of 6:43.57.

Ohio State travels to archrival Michigan Friday, Feb. 4. They finish the weekend in East Lansing versus Michigan State, Saturday, Feb. 5. Those two competitions will help prepare the Buckeyes for the Big Ten Championships, Feb. 24-26 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
