There were no world records on day two, but some very fast performances in the women's 400 IM from Yana Klochkova (UKR) in 4:38.26 and Eva Risztov (HUN) in second in 4:41.77, the two fastest performances for 2003.

Martna Moravcova completed a three event sweep during the two days with the 50 fly-200 free yesterday and the 100 fly today in 58.31, also the fastest of the year.

Hanna-Maria Seppala (FIN) won the 100 free today in 54.50, the fastest of the year so far, She won the 50 free yesterday.

In men's events Alexander Popov (RUS) won the 100 free today in 49.35 over Lars Frolander (SWE) with 49,66. Popov won the 50 free yesterday in 22.22. He was enigmatic as to his medal chances at the Worlds next month also in Barcelona. "I won't predict anything about medals next month," Popov said. "I made some mistakes here, I am working on them."

In the 100 breaststroke James Gibson (GBR) was the winner in 1:01.64 (with an even faster 1:01.11 in the orelims) over Chris Cook (GBR) in 1:01.74 And Oleg Lisogor (UKR) with 1:01.84. Yesterday's world record setter in the 200 breast, Dimitri Komornikov (RUS) was fourth in 1:02.26.

Laszlo Cheh (HUN) won the 400 IM today with a fast 4:15.39, third fastest in 2003 so far.

This was the third leg of the 2003 Mare Nostrum series, with earlier stops in Rome, Monte Carlo. Next and final stage will bi in Canet (FRA) 17-18 June.
