Andrew Haley and and Philippe Gagnon Receive Bursary

Andrew Haley (Moncton, NB) and Philippe Gagon (Ste-Foy, QC) both members of Canada's national team of swimmers with a disability received a $5,000 Team Investors Group bursary today at a special breakfast in Ottawa.

Haley, an 11-year national team member, currently holds 10 Canadian records and has competed at three Paralympic Games winning a total of five medals.

Gagnon won five medals at the Paralympics Games in Sydney while setting one world record; he has been named Swimming/Natation Male Swimmer of the Year in the swimmers with a disability category for the past three years.

Over 400 people applied for the 20 bursaries open to Canadian amateur athletes. The recipients were chosen based on community involvement, Canadian and world rankings, number of years on a national team, geographical location, living expenses and financial need.

This is the second year of the bursaries have been award. Investors Group has committed $100,000 a year in bursaries for another three years.
