Klete Keller and Skip Kenney Receive Pac-10 Men's Honors

WALNUT CREEK, CA. - USC's Klete Keller and STANFORD's Skip Kenney were named the 2000-01 Pacific-10 Conference Men's Swimmer/Newcomer and men's swimming Coach of the Year, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Klete, a freshman from Phoenix, Ariz., won individual NCAA Championships in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle events in College Station, Texas. Both times set pool records. With the wins, Keller tied for third in highest individual points. He garnered 51 total points by virtue of his two wins and by also placing as a member of the Trojans' freestyle relay. The team placed second in the 800-yard freestyle relay, eighth in the 1650-yard free and 11th in the 400-yard freestyle relay. At the Pacific-10 Championships, held in Long Beach, Calif., Keller won individual titles in the 200 and 500-year freestyle events. He also helped the USC freestyle relay team place first in the 800 free event, setting a Pac-10 Meet record. Keller placed second in the 1650-freestyle event.

Kenney, led the Cardinal to its 20th consecutive Pacific-10 Championship. At the Conference championships, his swimmers won six individual titles and three relay titles. Kenney coached Stanford to a runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships. At the pool in College Station, Texas, the Cardinal notched two individual titles and one relay title. The men's swimming Coach of the Year award is the 13th of Kenney's career.

The Swimmer, Newcomer and Coach of the Year honors are determined by a coaches vote.
