Shealy Named South Carolina Female Amateur Athlete Of The Year

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Former Georgia swimmer Courtney Shealy, who won two gold medals (4x400 and 4x100 medley) for the U.S. Swimming team in 2000 Olympics has been named the South Carolina Female Amateur Athlete of the Year by the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame.

The former Irmo High and University of Georgia star will receive the award at the annual SCAHOF banquet on April 26.

Shealy will be honored along with the induction Class of 2001 which includes Sterling Sharpe, John Kresse, Larry Nance, Jeff Davis, Dickie Harris, Sheila Foster, and Bob Bradley.

Shealy joins at the head table consensus national college baseball player of the year Kip Bouknight of USC, and Furman tailback Louis Ivory, winner of the Walter Payton Award, the co-Male Amateur Athletes of the Year.

Also, USC academic advisor Harold White and Sid Varney, retired Dean of the USC College of Hospitality, Retail and Sports Management, will receive service achievement awards.
