Guido Leads Way In The Gliding Games

Men's 50m backstroke heats:

Guilherme Guido (BRA) whacked out a 24.49 in heats of the 50m backstroke to lead the field through 0.16sec shy of world-record pace. Aschwin Wildeboer (ESP) was next through just 0.01 adrift, with camille Lacourt (FRA), Liam Tancock (GBR) and Junya Koga (JPN), 100m champion, on 24.5s. Guido's 2008 best was 25.04. 

The 24.98 in which Gerhard Zandberg (RSA) won the 2007 crown would have finished 16th in heats in Rome. The defending champion went through to Rome semis in 24.68.
