US V HUN Long Medley Showdown

Aug 2, 2009  - Craig Lord

Rome 2009, Day 8

Men's 400m medley heats

Tyler Clary (USA) finds himself in a pincer movement of Hungarians in the 400m medley final. The American took lane 4 in 4:10.04 and will have Laszlo Cseh and Gergo Kis either side of him. They swam 4:10s this morning, with the Olympic bronze medallist to watch, Ryan Lochte (USA), on 4:11.05, in the next to Cseh, Olympic silver medallist, in the final. Next through, Thomas Haffield (GBR) in a national record of 4:11.32, and Gal Nevo (ISR) on 4:11.51. Luca Marin (ITA) and Thiago Pereira (BRA) make up the numbers.

Only Michael Phelps would have made the 2009 cut from the times clocked in heats at Melbourne 2007.
