Eastern Michigan Crowned MAC Champs as Miami Finishes Second

OXFORD, Ohio - Even though Eastern Michigan's men's swimming and diving team earned its 20th Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championship Saturday evening, Miami University's team finished with the most individual titles over the three-day event (10). The Red and White finished second to the Eagles by a score of 888-794.

Junior John Carroll (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis) and senior Will Sensenbrenner (Champaign, Ill./Central) capped off an incredible run over the three days by winning a third MAC individual title each.

Carroll, who had already won the 400 individual medley and the 500 freestyle, came up with the goods one more time by winning the 200 butterfly, finishing with a time of 1:46.51. Carroll finishes the competition having defended by his 400 IM and 200 butterfly championships.

Sensenbrenner, who had already won the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, completed the hat trick by winning the 100 freestyle with a time of 45.26.

Junior Kevin Mulgrew (Malden, Mass./Malden Catholic) fell short in winning the 1,650 freestyle Saturday evening. Mulgrew finished second in the event a time of 15:47.45.

When the competition was over, head coach Pete Lindsay's squad earned 11 postseason awards, including MAC Diver of the Year, which was Dylan Nichols (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike), and MAC Diving Coach of the Year Todd Spohn.
