Three Longhorns Earn Big 12 Swimmer/Diver Of The Month Honors

Feb 14, 2001

The University of Texas men's swimmming team's senior Nate Dusing (Villa Hills, Ky./Covington Catholic) and junior diver Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif./Buena) captured the Big 12 Swimmer and Diver of the Month honors, respectively, sweeping the January nominations for Texas, as announced Monday by the conference office. Senior Colleen Lanne (Tuscon, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic) was named the conference female swimmer of the month, claiming her second consecutive nomination this year, while Missouri's Kristy Wanner took the women's diver of the month honor. Selections were made by a vote of the league's head swimming and diving coaches.

A 21-time All-American, Dusing won both the 200 and 400 individual medley against then-No. 6 Tennessee and also notched a win in the 100 butterfly against 13th-ranked Georgia. In the Texas A&M/Arizona dual meet, Dusing took first-place honors in the 200 IM, 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. He also holds the best times for Texas in the 50 (20.17) and 100 freestyle (44.12) and the 100 (47.65) and 200 backstroke (1:44.88).

Dumais, a six-time All-American, has claimed nine individual titles and remains undefeated this season on the three-meter springboard. In the month of January, he posted first-place finishes on the one and three-meter boards against Tennessee, Auburn, Texas A&M and Arizona. He also claimed a victory on the three-meter board against No. 22 SMU.

Lanne, a fifteen-time All-American, earned the monthly honor for the second time this season and her fourth in her career (December 1999 and January 2000). In January, she won 16 individual and relay events and remains undefeated in both the 50 and 100 freestyle. Lanne swam to victory in the 50 and 100 freestyle against Florida State and then-No. 10 Florida. She also paced the Longhorns to victories in the 200 and 400 medley relay against fourth-ranked Arizona and finished first in the 200 freestyle against perennial power Stanford.
