UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The No. 13 Penn State men's swimming and diving team closed out their regular season with a 145-98 win over Ohio State in Columbus. It marks the third consecutive regular season that the Nittany Lions have finished with only one dual meet blemish.

The Nittany Lions opened the meet by setting a new Mike Peppe Aquatic Center record in the 200 medley relay. The team of Brian Hostetler (Chambersburg, Pa.), Mike Laskowski (Redmond, Wash.), Eugene Botes (Glen Mills, Pa.), and Bob Molettiere (Harleysville, Pa.) finished with a time of 1:31.78. Hostetler also finished first for Penn State in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.68. Joe Peresan (Lancaster, N.Y.) touched the wall first in both the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke with times of 1:51.67 and 57.63 respectively.

Eugene Botes captured a pool record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 48.59. Senior Brian McKenna (Voorheesville, N.Y.) placed first in the 100 backstroke touching the wall in 50.19 seconds. Penn State put an exclamation point on their victory by sweeping the top three spots in the 500 freestyle. Erik Gordon (Seattle, Wash.), Andrew Hartner (New Paltz, N.Y.), and Steve Hodgins (Holmdel, N.J.) solidified the margin for the Lions.

Next up for Penn State is the 2001 Big Ten Championships in Minneapolis, Minn. The Nittany Lions placed third at last year's championship and captured their first-ever Big Ten title in 1999.
