Syracuse Women Defeat Three Teams At Florida Atlantic Meet

BOCA RATON, FL -- Syracuse's orangewomen swimmers won seven of 11 events to collect wins against Florida Atlantic (137-100), Miami (139-97) and North Florida (179-47) in the final meet of the regular season. SU finished the 2000-01 season with a dual-meet record of 8-1. Meanwhile, the Orangemen defeated the Miami men, 114-111 and lost to Florida Atlantic, 144-90. The SU men posted a dual-meet record of 4-4 this year.

Syracuse first-year swimmer Elyse McDonough (Delmar, NY) captured first place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:55.55. She won the 100 butterfly in a career-best time of 58.17.

Junior Djordje Filipovic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) had another fine day in the pool. He won three events, including the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.44), the 100-yard butterfly (50.61) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:39.79).

In diving, senior Adam Earle (Camillus, NY) finished third overall on both the one- and three-meter boards. Sophomore Julie Van Deusen (Bear, DE) was second on the one-meter and third on the three-meter. Senior Sara Mastropole (Milford, CT) placed sixth on the three-meter board and fifth on the one-meter.

For the Hurricane women, sophomore Elaine Schwartz (Mt. Laurel, NJ), won the 400-yard individual medley (4:29.29) and senior Jennifer Weir (Cooper City, FL) won the 100-yard freestyle (52.94).

Freshman Melanie Rinaldi (Quebec, Canada) took first while teammate Michelle Davidson finished second in the 1-meter springboard.

The Hurricane men swept the 1650-yard freestyle with junior Wesley Stoddard (Huntsville, AL,) finishing first (16.15.17) Ryan Rykaczewski (Satellite Beach, FL) second (16.28.66) and Tyson Hubbard (Columbia, MO) third (16.31.69).

Kyle Prandi won both the 1 and 3-meter springboard for the second week in a row as the UM men finished third behind, Florida Atlantic 129-106 and Syracuse 114-111.
