OSU Men Remain Unbeaten as they Defeat Northwestern

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State men's swimming and diving team (11-0,overall, 3-0 Big Ten) defeated Northwestern, 184-168, and Iowa, 193-17, at Big Ten dual meets in Evanston, Ill., to remain unbeaten.

Host Northwestern (4-3 overall, 3-3 Big Ten) defeated Iowa, 200-147, to gain a split on the weekend. Iowa fell to 0-5 overall and 0-5 in the Big Ten after the losses.

Brian Malich (Sr., Mason, Ohio/El Dorado Calif.) was a double-winner for the undermanned Buckeyes, taking both the 100 freestyle (:44.06) and 200 freestyle (1:39.05). On the boards, Heath Knowling (Alexandria, Ind./Anderson Highland) won the one-meter (339.15) and three-meter (328.05) diving events.

Other individual winners for Ohio State were Ivan Petrovic (Zagreb, Crotia) in the 200 breaststroke (1:48.74) and Nick Rees (Nassau, Bahamas) in the 100 butterfly. The 400 freestyle relay team of Nick Cheney (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee), Petrovic, Malich and David Paul (Holden, Mass./St. Peters-Marian) took first with a time of 3:01.73.

Travis Carver (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley) turned in a couple of second-place finishes in the 500 freestyle (4:34.84) and the 400 individual medley (4:00.63), respectively. Vladi Dusil (Darmstadt, Germany) took second in the 1650 freestyle (15:56/14).

OSU will play host to Big Ten foe Penn State next Saturday, 1 p.m., at the Mike Peppe Aquatic Center in the final home meet of the season.
