Clemson Swimming and Diving Defeats NC State

CLEMSON, SC - The Clemson swimming and diving teams wrapped up their home schedule with a win over ACC rival NC State University. The Tiger men improve to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the ACC while the women's team improves to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the ACC.

The Clemson women's team won eight of the 13 contested events, as they defeated the NC State women's team 152-91. Jenna Burtch led the Tigers with wins in the 50 free (23.82) and 100 free (52.12) and Mandy Commons set a new pool record in the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.15. Clemson swept the relays as Lindsey Kroeger, Mandy Commons, Elise Thieler and Leslie Anderson claimed the 200 Medley Relay in 1:45.40 while Nina Douglas, Caroline Peterson, Patty Hider and Jenna Burtch won the 400 Free Relay in 3:31.23. Emily Hustead won the 1000 free in 10:18.52 and Elise Thieler won the 100 fly with a time of 57.30. Lindsey Kroeger claimed the 100 back with a time of 57.70.

On the men's side, the Tigers claimed nine of 13 events as they defeated the Wolfpack 142.5-99.5. Like the women, the Clemson men swept the relay events as German Martinez, Matt Norman, Rob Kummer and Will Rogers won the 200 Medley Relay in 1:33.21 while Kenny Roberts, Drew Scheerhorn, Matt Wilson and Brent Hitchcock won the 400 free relay in 3:07.86. Brent Hitchcock won the 200 free in 1:42.41 while Matt Wilson claimed the 200IM with a time of 1:53.98. Craig Thomas won the one-meter diving event with a score of 293.70 and Rob Kummer won the 100 fly in 50.66. Will Rogers claimed the 100 free in 46.70 and Matt Norman recorded a winning time of 57.97 in the 100 breast. German Martinez tied for first in the 100 back with a time of 50.60.

The Tiger men's and women's swimming and diving teams will next compete at the ACC Championships in Charlottesville, VA. The women's championships will be held Feb. 15-17 while the men will compete Feb. 22-24.
