CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina's men's and women's swimming and diving teams both scored convincing victories Saturday afternoon over Maryland at Koury Natatorium. The Tar Heel women's team won their seventh successive meet by beating Maryland 203-96 while the UNC men bounced back from a loss at Virginia last Saturday to beat the Terrapins 205-95.

The meet marked the final home appearance for 11 Tar Heel swimmers. This group included Brad Kline, Taylor Marks, Dave Meschke, Mark Seidman and Dave Slawinski of the men's team and Erika Acuff, Kristin Lozeau, Summer Mack, JoAnn Overton, Lauren Silva and Erica Vrana of the women's team.

North Carolina won 12 of 16 events in both the men's and women's meets, including a sweep of the relay events. Nine different Tar Heel men accounted for the team's 10 individual wins with sophomore diver Stephen Krebs being the only two-event winner (one meter and three meter). Kline finished out his home dual meet career with a win in the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.05).

On the women's side the Tar Heels had three swimmers who each won two individual events and swam on both winning relays. Acuff won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:48.95 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:03.56. Mack won both backstroke events as she took top honors at 100 yards in 55.56 and at 200 yards in 2:03.71. Junior Katie Hathaway has wins for Carolina in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.72) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.94). All three Carolina swimmers also swam legs on UNC's victorious 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays. Junior Molly Sullivan was also a two-event winner for the Tar Heels as she copped the 1000-yard freestyle (10:00.98) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.56).

The UNC women, ranked ninth nationally, improved to 7-1 overall this season at 4-0 in the ACC. The Carolina men's team, ranked 14th in the nation, is 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the ACC.

Maryland's men and women both lost for the first time in the ACC this year. The Terrapin women, #16 in the latest rankings, are 8-2 overall and 1-1 in the ACC. The Maryland men are now 7-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

UNC's men and women will complete their dual meet seasons next Friday at 4 p.m. when they swim at NC State.
