Jan 24, 2001

GREENSBORO, N.C. - University of Virginia first-year Luke Anderson (Charlottesville, Va./Bolles School) has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week for his performance in UVa's 139.5-103.5 victory over North Carolina on January 20. Anderson earned the award after winning two individual events and one relay in helping lead the 11th-ranked Cavaliers to the victory over 14th-ranked UNC.

Anderson lowered his collegiate and team best times in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle against North Carolina. He won the 50-yard freestyle in 20.46 and won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 44.95. Anderson also swam the leadoff leg on UVa's 400-yard freestyle relay team, which won in a season-best time of 3:01.80.

This is the second time this season that Anderson has been named the ACC Men's Swimmer of the Week as he also earned the award on December 4. It is also the third time a Virginia swimmer has garnered the award as first-year Ian Prichard was named the ACC Men's Swimmer of the Week on November 13.

The 11th-ranked Cavalier men are currently 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the ACC. Both the UVa men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action on Saturday, January 27 when they host ACC rival Duke at 1:00 p.m. at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.
