Champions To Jockey For Position In Canet

The 24th Meeting International de Natation at Canet en Roussillon, part of the the Mare Nostrum Tour, on June 8-9, will feature French aces Yannick Agnel, European champion, and Camille Muffat, world s/c champion.

The meet, a staple on the big warm-up circuit for the major international of each passing season, has attracted more than 300 top swimmers from 29 countries this year as the world's fastest fish get ready for the FINA world championships in Shanghai in July.

Described by organisers as a "melting pot" for elite swimmers, Canet has attracted Agnel and Muffat at the helm of a strong French contingent, while the list of world-class swimmers extends to world champions Cameron Van Der Burgh (RSA), Sarah Sjostrom (SWE), Jessicah Schipper (AUS), world record holders Christian Sprenger (AUS), Therese Alshammar (SWE) and Annamay Pierse (CAN), European champions Laszlo Cseh (HUN) and Anastasia Chaun (RUS), Commonwealth champions Chad Le Clos (RSA) and Emily Seebohm (AUS) and Asian and Japanese champions Ryo Tateishi, Takeshi Matsuda, Yuka Kato and Satomi Suzuki.
