Jan 15, 2001  - By Neville Smith

Mr. Price Seagulls teammates, Melissa Corfe and Terence Parkin continued their impressive form at the Kwa-Zulu Natal swimming championships at the Kings Park Aquatic Center in Durban on Saturday night.

The likeable Corfe, competing in the 200m freestyle for girls 14-:15, again had the competitive Nicola Stanley (Westville - KZN) pushing hard from the gun. Corfe went out hard from the gun and went into the first turn with an advantage (29.69 / 30.01). Coming back to the first hundred, Stanley fought back (32.41 / 32.37), but coming off the wall Corfe " turned on the gas" and took the race "by the scruff of its neck" (32.60 /33.39) to go into the final lap with a commanding lead. Stanley fought hard in the final lap (32.08 / 31.82) but Corfe had done enough to take the title and shave ,02 sec off training partner Candice Crafford's 1996 National Age Group record time of 2:06.80.

Corfe's time of 2:06.78 had earned her third consecutive National Age Group record on three consecutive nights at the Championships. He time is however a tad off Petro Nortjie's domestic record of 2:05.18 established in the 1987 season.

Both Corfe and Stanley will be eligible to compete in this event next year and this mark is sure to under threat.

In another highly competitive evenings swimming, eight provincial marks took a tumble while 49 Senior National qualifying times were posted.

As with previous evenings, it was the new 50m items that were under pressure. Backstroke was the event in question and the following individuals established new records. Kyle McKenzie (11) (Beavers - KZN) 35.26 , Paul Bees (13) (Pietermaritzburg Seals - KZN) 30.99 , Shelly Alcock (13) (AQNZE) 31.90, Paul Dais (15) (Mr. Price Seagulls - KZN) 29.86, Melissa Corfe (14) (Mr. Price Seagulls - KZN ) 31.93 and Luke Jordaan (Men
