Lady Bulldogs Top SMU in Dallas

Jan 13, 2001

DALLAS, Texas - Over the last four seasons, the Georgia Lady Bulldogs have lost only one meet and that came against Southern Methodist during the 1998-99 season. It is the only loss any of the current Georgia swimmers have had to endure. The Lady Bulldogs avenged that blemish on Friday afternoon with a 168-130 win over the Lady Mustangs in Dallas.

Georgia began the day with a first-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay and proceeded to win 12 of the next 14 events to come away with the victory. Junior Ashley Roby paced the Lady Bulldogs, finishing first in three races, both breaststroke events and the 200-yard individual medley.

Senior Kim Black won both the 200-yard (1:48.85) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:53.29), while classmate Keegan Walkley touched the wall first in the 200-yard fly in a time of 2:01.88. Sophomore Maritza Correia finished behind Black in the 200-meter and 500-meter freestyle.

Both Stefanie Williams and Christine Keller each won two events, while freshman Lauren King took first on the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events.

The men's swimming and diving team will be in action on Saturday, Jan. 13, as it hosts the top-ranked Texas Longhorns at the Ramsey Center beginning at noon. Both teams will return to SEC competition on Jan. 12, as they travel to Baton Rouge for a meet against LSU.
