Texas Defeats Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Senior Colleen Lanne (Tucson, Ariz./Sal Pointe Catholic HS), junior Bethany Lindberg (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge HS) and sophomore Tanica Jamison (Dublin, Calif./Dublin HS) each won two individual events as the No. 8-ranked Texas women's swimming and diving team defeated Florida State, 182-115, on Friday afternoon at the Bobby E. Lee Center. The Longhorns improve to 3-0, while Florida State falls to 7-3 on the season.

Lanne touched first in both the 50 (23.00) and 100 freestyles (49.62), while Lindberg swept the backstroke events, winning the 100 (56.48) and 200 (2:00.85). Jamison also captured the 200 IM (2:03.89) and 200 freestyle events (1:50.10).

"We really turned it up a notch today," said co-head coach Jill Sterkel. "Florida State had the potential to take the meet if we had not performed well in each event. Everyone stayed focused and showed great success today. Now we have the momentum and the confidence to go up against a very strong Florida team on Saturday."

Also capturing first-place honors in individual events for the Longhorns were sophomore Emily Ballenger (Anderson, S.C./T.L. Hanna HS), who finished first in the 100 freestyle (10:05.50) and junior Helen Denman (Dalkeith, Australia/University of Western Australia), who won the 100 breaststroke (1:04.95).
