Tiger Swimmers Dominate Florida Meet

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The LSU men's and women's swimming teams each picked up a pair of wins in Clearwater, Fla., by handily defeating both the University of Tampa and Ouachita Baptist in a double-dual meet.

"I was extremely pleased with everyone's performance in the meet," said LSU head coach Jeff Cavana. "We came out strong and with a lot of fire, and whenever we have that competitive spirit, we are very difficult to beat."

The LSU women's swimming team completely dominated its meet versus both the Tampa Spartans and Ouachita Baptist Tigers by finishing first in every event. The Lady Tigers were victorious over Tampa, 107-68, and Ouachita Baptist, 107-25.

On the men's side of the competition, LSU took control of the meet early by posting consecutive wins and used the momentum to cruise to easy victories over Ouachita Baptist, 101-26, and Tampa, 101-72.

"Tampa and Ouachita are both very good teams," Cavana said. "I was really impressed with the amount of talent that they showed throughout the meet, but today our team just performed extremely well, and we were able to come out on top."

The Lady Tigers improved to a 5-2 overall record in dual matches on the season, while the LSU men's team remained undefeated and also picked up its fifth win of the season.

Several LSU swimmers turned in outstanding performances at the double-dual meet in Clearwater, Fla. Four Lady Tigers as well as three Tigers each finished first in two events.

Donna Leslie was victorious in both the 500 and 1000-yard freestyle events, Mandy Leach dominated the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-backstroke, while Julie Hughes took both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle competitions, and Chere Richards won the 200
