Backstroke star Matt Welsh collected two of the four major prizes for top points over the three-day World Cup swimming meet in Melbourne. Welsh won both the 50m and 100m categories. covering both men and women. Italy's Fabio Farabegoli collected the 200m award for his breaststroke time and Australian Grant McGregor won the distance events with his 400m individual medley time. Highest points performance ($5000 each) 50m: Matt Welsh (AUS) 1007 points, 50m backstroke 100m: Matt Welsh (AUS) 1012, 100m backstroke 200m: Fabio Farabegoli (ITA) 990, 200m breaststroke Distance: Grant McGregor (AUS) 986, 400, Individual Medley Australian Swimming President John Devitt praised the swimmers from 13 countries, who competed at the event, at the conclusion of the meeting.
