Lochte Sets Up The First Challenge
Aug 1, 2012
Olympic Games, London, Day 5 semi-finals
Men's 200 Backstroke
Ryan Lochte (USA) is into energy conservation, what with the 200IM still to come and more of the same tomorrow under far more trying circumstances. He did what he had too, winning his semi in 1:55.40 before watching teammate Tyler Clary go 1:54.71 in the second semi.
"The swim went really well. I hit most of the things I wanted to hit," Clary said. "There are a couple of things I want to work on for tomorrow, namely a couple of my turns and my breakout. I think tomorrow is going to be a pretty good swim.
China's Zhang Fenglin and Japan's Ryosuke Irie are in the mix and a threat to the podium.
Canada's Tobias Oriwol finished in 14th place in 1:58.74. "I’m disappointed,’’ said Oriwol. "I had a personal best this morning and a third best tonight. To swim with the best in the world you have to have a better time in the evening."
