Texas Women Victorious Over Michigan And Michigan State

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The No. 10-ranked University of Texas women's swimming defeated No. 11 Michigan, 168-132, and Michigan State, 227-72, in double dual action Friday night at the Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor, Mich. Senior Colleen Lanne (Tucson, Ariz./Sal Pointe Catholic HS) dominated the freestyle events, winning the 50 (23.26), 100 (50.30) and 200-yard freestyle events (1:49.08). Other strong performances came from senior Shona Kitson (Windsor, Ontario/Vincent Massey HS), who captured the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.24 and sophomore Tanica Jamison (Dublin, Calif./Dublin HS) who touched first in the 400 IM (4:25.29).

Additionally, the team of Lanne, junior Kelley Robins (Houston Texas/Awty International), junior Lauren Martin (Houston, Texas/The Bolles School) and sophomore Erin Phenix (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) captured the 200 freestyle relay for the Longhorn win.

"We are extremely happy with our performance," said co-head coach Jill Sterkel. "Michigan and Michigan State really gave us a tough meet and there were so many close races. However, our team was extremely focused and positive throughout each race to pull out the win. This was a great test for us and they definitely got the job done."

In the diving events Kristen Marquis (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS) captured valuable points for Texas by winning the three-meter springboard, while newcomers Ally Hartzel (Austin, Texas) and Kelsey Butt (Austin, Texas/James Bowie HS) placed second and forth, respectively.

The Longhorns will compete on Saturday, Nov. 18 in a non-scoring event hosted by Michigan, beginning at 8 a.m.

The No. 1-ranked Texas men's swimming team posted four wins in six events during an exhibition meet hosted by No. 9 Michigan on Friday, Nov. 17 at the Canham Natatorium. The team of junior Tommy Hannan ((Baltimore, Md.), freshman Ian Crocker (Portland, Maine), junior Ryan Ciccarelli (Plainsboro, N.J.) and senior Jamie Rauch (Houston, Texas) opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:22.92).

In the individual events, junior Leffie Crawford (Pacifica, Calif.) touched first in the 100 fly (50:43), while newcomer Brendan Hansen (Havertown, Pa.) captured the 100 breaststroke title with a time of 55.33. Senior Nate Dusing (Villa Hills, Ky. / Covington Catholic) also won the 100 backstroke with a time of 49.28.

The men's team opens its dual meet season against No. 9 Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 18 at the Canham Natatorium. The first race is slated for noon.
