Annamay Pierse Calls It A Day

Sep 18, 2012

Former World Record holder Annamay Pierse, of Canada, has retired.

“Well it is official! After 22 yrs of swimming I am hanging up the goggles & moving on Thank you to everyone who made it amazing!” Pierse Tweets.

Pierse clocked 2:20.12 in the semi-finals at the Rome 2009 world championships at the height of the shiny suits crisis. Her peak form coincided with the use of suits banned since January 1, 2010, and she was unable to find her best form in the seasons that followed the FINA ban on suits that assisted performance.

Pierse, 28, missed the cut for the Olympic Games in London this year and decided to move on after serving as a commentator for a Canadian broadcaster.
