Purdue Defeats Big Ten Opponents Iowa and Ohio State

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Purdue women's swim team defeated Big Ten rivals Ohio State, 171-127, and Iowa, 155-142, today in a double-dual meet in Iowa City. The Boilermakers improve to 5-0 on the season. Ohio State falls to 1-4, while Iowa moves to 1-4.

"Today was a good meet for us in the end," Purdue head women's swim coach Cathy Wright-Eger said. "The meet came down to the wire, especially against Iowa. We had to fight and scrap, but we were able to pull it out in the end and come away with two good, quality wins today."

Sophomore Kim Paradiese was a pivotal part in the Boilermakers victories over the Buckeyes and Hawkeyes with two third-place finishes and one first-place finish as a member of the record-setting 400 freestyle relay team. Paradiese recorded a personal season-best of 24.34 in the 50 freestyle, a personal season-best time of 1:53.61 in the 200 freestyle, along with the record relay time with team members sophomore Lisa Dolansky and seniors Missy Bromley and Gyongyver Lakos.

Bromley also had a good meet, finishing first in the 50 free with a new season top time of 23.88 and third in the 100 free with a time of 52.50.

Along with Bromley's third-palce finish in the 100 freestyle, Lakos took the first-place finish for the Boilermakers with a time of 51.55. She also took a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle at 1:52.94.

In the 500 freestyle, junior Kelly Mackus finished third at 5:07.55. Sophomore Laura Dill finished the race in sixth place with a time of 5:14.01.

In the 100 backstroke, Dolansky recorded a time of 57.49 for a first-place finish, while senior teammate Jen Alden recorded a time of 1:01.13 for an eighth-place finish.

Dolansky took a third-place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:05.85 and Boilermaker sophomore Shannon Funk finished fourth at 2:06.04.

In the 100 breaststroke, sophomore Lindsay Lange finished second with a time of 1:06.88. Senior Brianna Reina finished in 1:07.38, for fourth place.

Reina finished second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:24.67 and freshman Lindsay Kirchoff finished third with a time of 2:25.17.

Sophomore Patricia Finnerty fielded a time of 58.39 for a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly, while freshman Autumn Sample finished fourth at 59.02.

The 200 fly netted a third-place finish and a sixth-place finish for the Boilermakers in junior Karin Stender's 2:06.67 and Finnerty's 2:07.56.

In the 400 individual medley, Mackus finished fourth at 4:35.76 and Sample finished fifth with a time of 4:36.60.

In the diving events, senior Kara Hajek finished seventh with 226.80 points on the one meter board and fourth with 258.50 points on the three meter board. Junior Molly MacFarland finished sixth on the one meter and the three meter with 230.25 and 245.35 points, respectively.

Purdue will return to action when it travels to Penn State to continue its Big Ten schedule on Friday, Nov. 17. Meet time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
