Arizona Men Defeat Southern California

LOS ANGELES, Ca. - The No. 4 - Arizona men's swimming and diving team went on the road for the first time this season when they traveled to Los Angeles to face USC. Arizona won the meet with a final score of 166 to 134.

The first event of the day was the 200 medley relay, Arizona's relay team took first place with a time of 1:32.29. The team was made up of junior Kris Souther, senior Ben Anderson, junior Roland Schoeman and freshman Eric la Fleur. Souther and Schoeman both won individual events as well. Souther captured the 200 back with a time of 1:48.23 and Schoeman placed first in the 50 free with a time of 20.08, an NCAA consideration time. Schoeman also won the 100 fly with another NCAA consideration time of 48.26. Three other Arizona swimmers made NCAA consideration times, seniors Jay Schryver and Tyler Painter in the 200 free (1:38.41) and the 500 free (4:23.15) and sophomore Jeff Dash in the 200 fly (1:48.06). The Arizona 200 free relay team, made up of la Fleur, Schoeman, freshman Tyler Johnson and Schryver, placed first with a time of 1:21.57.

The Wildcat divers placed second, third and fourth in both the one and three meter events. Freshman Alex Vollelunga placed second on the one meter, scoring 281 points, sophomore Scott Koenig placed third with 275.75 points, while freshman Josh Anderson scored 272.30 points to place fourth. On the three meter Anderson placed second (266.90), Koenig again placed third (254.65) and Vollelunga placed fourth (245.70).
