News Round-Up:

Britain: Michael Scott has offered his resignation from his job as performance director to Britain amid a review into the host nation's results at London 2012. He and the previous two head coaches, Bill Sweetenham and then Dennis Pursley, all had issues with the CEO of British Swimming who has been in the top seat throughout all of Britain's woes in the past 12 years, David Sparkes. Scott is leading the review process, the panel's report, with input from Bob Bowman, US coach and mentor to Michael Phelps, due to be considered by the federation's board on December 6. SwimNews understands that the board had wanted to delay the report until January but Scott pressed for as swift a solution as possible, noting that if Britain is to accept some of the recommendations for change, such as trials a month out from the world championships next summer, coaches and swimmers need to know in 2012, not 2013. Scott is reported to be in the running for a job in athletics Down Under, while recent changes at Swimming Australia have also opened up opportunities there: Scott successfully oversaw the organisation of Melbourne 2007 world titles.

Germany: at German s/c nationals in Wuppertal, Paul Biedermann, of Halle, pipped Dimitri Colupaev 1:43.47 to 1:43.63 after overhauling the challenger over the last 50m of the 200m free. Yannick Lebherz, winner of the 400m medley in 4:05.28, finished third in 1:45.15, with Christoph Fildebrandt on 1:45.29 to complete the top four and likely Germany relay come Istanbul world titles next month. Biedermann's girlfriend, Britta Steffen, still racing for her old club Neukoelln but now based at Halle, took the 100m free in 52.60, with Daniela Schreiber closest in 53.11. Caroline Ruhnau, of Essen, clocked 1:06.78 to win the 100m breaststroke, the men's equivalent going to Marco Koch in a dominant 58.07.

Sweden: at Swedish s/c nationals in helsingborg, Sarah Sjöström claimed the 200m freestyle crown in 1:54.78 and split a 52.29 in the 4x100m free for her club relay.

Australia: reports that Fred Vergnoux - head coach CN Sabadell in Spain and part of the set up in Britain before that as head coach in Edinburgh - is heading Down Under to take over at the Western Australian Institute of Sport in Perth are premature. The Frenchman tells SwimNews that he has had an offer but that while that is being considered, he has made no statements and is yet to make any decision. Meanwhile former head coach of Danish swimming Paulus Wildeboer is said to have taken up a post in Queensland. Sources in Denmark tell SwimNews that they are happy that there has been a change at home - more on moves in Denmark in the near future.
