Women's 4x100m medley
The Danish 4x100m medley quartet of Mie Nielsen (56.73), Rikke Pedersen (1:03.48), Jeanette Ottesen (56.49) and Pernille Blume (53.17) not only claimed their nation's first gold medal at the world championships with a 3:49.87 triumph but became the first foursome from denmark to make the podium, men or women at global s/c level.
The USA took silver in 3:50.88, Australia holding off a late challenge from Britain for bronze in 3:51.43 to 3:51.85, a British record, Fran Halsall out of the 100m straight as she adjusts to a new programme but on a 51.99 split, second best of the field behind 51.90 for American Megan Romano, solo silver medallist behind Britta Steffen earlier in the session.
